20 mph zone

Brent carried out a public consultation last November into whether residents wanted a 20 mile an hour limit in the area between Cricklewood Broadway, Walm Lane, Brondesbury Park and Cavendish Road. The residents were overwhelmingly in favour of the scheme. Residents also wanted a new zebra crossing on Mapesbury Road and most people were also in favour of bringing in a 75-ton lorry ban throughout the area.

The 20 mph zone has been implemented in Mapesbury because it has been proved to reduce traffic accidents, including personal injury, and reduce through traffic.   The use of the tables and humps has been determined, from research, to ensure that the most effective measures are used, taking into account the high pressure on available parking spaces and private driveways.

In the past three years there have been nineteen personal injuries in the area, so it is hoped that the introduction of the scheme will significantly reduce accidents. .

Brent Council hope that the improved design of the calming measures will encourage smoother driving behaviour and a general reduction in emissions.
