Book groups

Two groups in the area are up and reading. Both have seven or eight members, which is about the right size for a book group, and meet at members' homes once a month.

B   The first which has been going successfully since 2003 is coordinated by Therese Erskine. The club meets every 4 weeks on Wednesday at 8pm.  The group's  recent reads include The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, set in Mississippi in the 1950s, and books they have got through in 2010 include the Nigerian  Half of a Yellow Sun, Girl in a Blue Dress, a fictional life of Dickens,  and For Whom the Bell Tolls.  Vacancy for one more; contact clubs

The second book group's choices are equally varied. Members have covered The Leopard, Excellent Women, by Barbara Pym,  Brooklyn by Colm Toibin, and the Canadian Stone Carvers. Next one is The Hare with Amber eyes on 18th July. New members are welcome. Please contact contact clubs
