B&Q devt. – amended height

The developers have cut the height of the tallest building from 25 storeys to 19 storeys. However, it still has 1,050 residential units on the site, down from 1,100. There are no other changes and the remaining 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19-storey blocks; the tallest buildings will still be more than twice the height of anything else in Cricklewood. Barnet are running a further consultation, expiry date 16 July 2021. If you've commented before, you can still comment again. It could be very important to do that, or else the planning committee may once again be told "it is important to note" there were less objections this time. What happens on this site will define Cricklewood’s town centre. More Link for comments

And reminder about planning the future of Cricklewood. Split between Barnet, Camden and Brent there is no overall vision, no masterplan for Cricklewood . Lia would like to hear residents’ views on the short and long term future of Cricklewood.  Contact her at Cllr.Lia.Colacicco@brent.gov.uk; Twittter poll on @Liacolacicco

Mapesbury Fete – Success

Thanks for all involved in the fete; organisers, stallholders, movers/ erectors and of course members who attended. Think it was a good day; lucky with the weather. And we raised over £1700 net for local charities. (after my email last Sunday remaining plants and stuff was gone within an hour!)

Old star application

Draw your attention to this application 21/240, see below. The owner of the old Star Hotel at 132 Chatsworth is trying again to get planning approval to reopen as a homeless hostel (for 14 people in cramped conditions). An application (20/3301) was turned down in December for one design reason and for a change of use from Bed & Breakfast Hotel to homeless hostel. It had been used briefly as a Bed & Breakfast Hotel but then returned to an unofficial homeless hostel and has largely been empty or derelict in recent years. The latest application has addressed the design objection and now claims that is won’t be a homeless hostel but will ‘continue’ operating as a B&B Hotel. Very contentious locally.

Vaccine Passport Scam Alert

Police have been made aware of a COVID-19 Vaccine Passport scam email going around that purports to be from the NHS and informs recipients that they can apply for their “Digital Coronavirus Passports”. Clicking on the link takes you to a convincing but fake NHS website that asks for personal and payment details (for an admin/processing fee). Your vaccination status is obtained free through the NHS App, website or by calling the NHS on 119.
