Reminder. Mapesbury community skip

Thursday 22 July 10am to 12am, Blenheim Gardens (Station parade end outside Carlton Court),
The skip is for Brent residents only. Each household can drop off up to five bulky items or five black bags (or a mixture of both) and will need to show one form of identification to prove they live in Brent (e.g. driver’s licence, council tax or utility bill). They may be asking users to queue to help maintain social distancing.; hand sanitiser will be available.

They are unable to accept the following items: Asbestos, Car tyres, Fridges / freezers, Oil / oil drums, Paint cans and no trade/commercial waste. You must be able to load your own waste into the skip and do so at your own risk (though I understand Cllr Tariq Dar will be on hand to help).
They encourage residents to assist with a litter pick of the local area.

Watling Gardens devt

Draw your attention to devt proposal. (see app 21/2473 below). A very big scheme to demolish Claire Court and the low building 1-11 Watling Gardens and replace by 3 blocks ranging from 3 to 14 storeys. The new blocks are large box shaped buildings with no softness to the design. Such profile will have an overbearing effect on the skyline and for the neighbours on Exeter Road.

Food caddy, foxes

A member reports the high instance of foxes upending kitchen waste caddies and strewing debris all over the pavements and roads. She’s taken to putting hers on top of the grey or blue bin to get it out of easy reach and it's working fine. If others follow example It might significantly cut down the daily widespread problem. And several people report rats which possibly live off some of the stuff discarded. I thought that closing the caddy properly would solve it but apparently Brent foxes are pretty smart.

Robbery

A member in Melrose Avenue reports a robbery around 3pm on Thursday. One of her older neighbours (near to no 116) was getting home to open her door, she left her bags for a second and three white males in a silver Volkswagen Passat with 09/10 plates grabbed it. She had a lot of money in the bag as she had been to her banks to withdraw cash because she was a victim of an NHS scam. The police were informed but appeal for any picture or video of the car, especially if it shows the 3 men. (case no 4528 /13JUL21). And clearly sensible to be very careful especially if carrying significant cash.

Vaccine Passport Scam Alert

Police have been made aware of a COVID-19 Vaccine Passport scam email going around that purports to be from the NHS and informs recipients that they can apply for their “Digital Coronavirus Passports”. Clicking on the link takes you to a convincing but fake NHS website that asks for personal and payment details (for an admin/processing fee).Your vaccination status is obtained FREE through the NHS App, website or by calling the NHS on 119.

Fake Sainsbury’s ‘marketing survey’ email

Phishing attempts that masquerade as well-known brands are becoming more sophisticated. This time it’s Sainsbury’s that is being impersonated via an email promising £90 for taking part in a ‘marketing survey’. It encourages recipients to part with sensitive personal information. Here’s what the email looks like.

WhatsApp account hacked

Police have seen a rise in the reporting of WhatsApp accounts being hacked. See attached PDF document for information and advice on how to protect your account. WhatsApp Account (871 KB)

Investment scams

If you come across an interesting investment opportunity via a search engine or online advert, how can you tell whether it’s genuine or not? Just entering your email address and phone number on rogue investment sites could leave you facing a barrage of cold calls and unsolicited emails. Video from Which magazine explains what checks you can carry out to ensure an investment site or firm is legitimate or a clone and how to stay one step ahead of fraudsters.
