Sentimental tapes. Stephen and Colleen’s car was broken into last Saturday and, among other items, some old video tapes were taken which will no doubt be thrown away as of no use to the thief. But they would very much like to get them back as they are footage of their son when he was born and of her late father in New Zealand. If you come across dumped tapes (small old-fashioned Hi-8 video tapes in clear plastic boxes) they would be over-joyed to recover them. Contact Colleen on 07973 158 129. (reward offered)

Waste collection / Street Cleaning changes. Brent is consulting on future services, deadline 21 August, on the council’s engagement portal: They are asking for residents’ views on the following proposed changes to the services:
  • Introducing alternating weekly recycling collections for two different types of recyclable material. This means that ‘containers’ (e.g. tin cans, pots and glass) will be collected one week in your blue-topped bin, and ‘fibre’ (e.g. mixed paper, card and newspapers) will be collected the next week in new, separate reusable sacks that they’ll provide to residents.
  • Introducing a new free bookable Small Items Collection Service for recycling textiles, small electrical items, batteries, coffee pods and paint.
  • Deploying street cleaning teams more intelligently, to where they are needed most, supported by rapid response teams in each Brent Connect area. This will be a move away from the current approach that focuses on teams being deployed to certain streets on a schedule.
The proposed changes to recycling collections will affect all street level households – those who currently put their recycling in a blue-topped bin that is collected at the kerbside –  and some communal households (flats) where there is space to provide a separate bin for fibre. All other flats will not be affected. They want to hear from as many residents as possible. The link includes information on the proposed service changes and the reasons why Brent favours these, as well as information about alternative options that were considered but they do not favour.

Volunteers needed, The MAFW team is urgently looking for some more volunteers to join the team. “Mutual Aid Food Willesden is a food bank based in Willesden Green, we are looking for volunteers to join the team. The food bank is split into 2 shifts, morning, and afternoon every Tuesday. If you have a few hours to spare, we would love to hear from you. It’s a local project, run by volunteers. We are a friendly bunch, and it’s very rewarding to help support others in our community. If you are interested, please email mutualaidfoodwillesden@gmail.com

Bus changes.  Transport for London have extended the deadline for responses to their plan to change and remove services, which include abolishing the 16; sending the 189 to Camden rather than Baker Street, Selfridges and Marble Arch. The deadline is now 7 August. We haven’t sent MapRA’s response yet and thank people who have commented to us so far. But comment directly as well.

Bridge Sign Clean, 1 August at 7 pm, come and join our siste Residents Associaiotion, NW2 plus friends from the Good Gym group to wash the Cricklewood sign in the bridge tunnel by the Station. Internet Scam. Recently someone (with a very heavy Indian accent, and a noisy office in the background) phoned a member from “Outreach” /BT to say that her internet connection is interrupted which may be a fault  with the server..  He said he could see problems on his system, implied that she should cooperate or lose support, and asked the speed of her internet; but by that time she had enough and rang off.
Our computer expert, Nathan, confirmed that this is a scam.
