David Gee died last Sunday, having contracted Covid just after Christmas. Gloria caught it soon after but recovered quickly. David was not so lucky and was admitted to the Royal Free two weeks ago. Because of his leukaemia and other health problems, David and Gloria were very careful to shield themselves and avoid any unnecessary contact with the outside world. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the doctors were unable to save David.
Many of you will have known David, who was variously chair or secretary of MapRA for 4 years from 2012. He was also well respected as a serious ceramicist. He organised the Open Studio event in 2014 and several subsequent exhibitions in his house and garden. I treasure his memory; he was a good friend to me and many people; a lovely man, a real gentleman who bore his illnesses without complaint.

HMRC scam call.
A member has twice had a very unpleasant call from purporting to come from HMRC. A man in a very threatening tone says that because of a tax fraud, and if she doesn’t press 1 a warrant will be issued in my name and will be arrested immediately. The number it came from was 07212120727. Obviously a scam, but could be quite frightening, especially as the Jan 31 tax deadline looms.
Wed 27 Jan, a day to commemorate the Holocaust, Nazi persecution and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur – as well as present-day situations around the world and closer to home.
