Mayor’s charities

As you no doubt know one of our local councillors, Lia Colacicco, is Mayor of Brent. At a ceremony on Thursday night Lia gave details of the two charities she is supporting as Mayor:
 
Parkinson’s UK. People with Parkinson’s do not have enough of the chemical dopamine because some of the nerve cells that make it have died. There are lots of treatments, therapies and support available to help manage the condition. Parkinson UK researchers are working to develop new and better treatments - and, one day, a cure.
 
Cricklewood Library.  The NW2 community library provides facilities for children and adults, as well as space for local people to meet in its community café. It is intended as a mixed use community hub to provide a range of services and function as a centre for all the community.

Plus, she is supporting and a global warming initiative called ‘Count us in’ This aims to sign up one billion people world wide to change at least one habit. By making a simple pledge you can help reduce carbon; and Brent will count how many tons of carbon we save. Cricklewood Library open

After a lot of work and help from the community the library is opening tomorrow, Monday 25 October. To start with it will be open each week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm. Check it out.

Trees for Mapesbury

We were successful in getting a grant from the Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy funding towards planting additional or replacement trees in our area. Chatsworth Road has been completed and Martin Page at the Council is now looking at what precisely in needed in other streets. He will be having a walkabout on Monday (25 Oct) starting at 2pm at 77 Melrose Avenue. If you are interested, join him there or since he will be going to other streets in the area,  let me know and I’ll give you a contact phone no so you can be informed when / if he comes to your area.

Local democracy / climate change

On Wednesday 27 October, Brent is hosting a special Question Time event to hear from prominent local councillors, community environmental organisations, and experts. It will be split into four parts, each focusing on one of the four key themes, which arose from the Brent Climate Assembly:

• Consumption and waste
• Transport
• Homes and buildings
• How you can get involved

Insight day

Tuesday 26 October 11-3pm. Brent want to help over 250 young people, to raise their awareness of employment prospects as well as offering support to develop job opportunities. 130 people have signed up for the Insight Day so far. Defibrillators

Diluter role.

referring to my last email about vaccine volunteers; A member explains that the diluter job is because the Pfizer vaccine comes concentrated, 10 vaccines in one vial that needs to be watered down. (Only clinically registered people ie nurses or GPs, can do this)
