Police Ward Panel

Our Ward Panel online meeting with P:olice was last week. Most categories of crime are down and there are more police patrols focussing on reducing Anti-Social behaviour / violence.

Car crime has still increased; with catalytic converter theft and Items are still being left on display in vehicles. Anyone seeing people trying car doors should contact police via 999.

(A member in Melrose Avenue reports seeing a man on a bicycle shining a torch into cars along pavement at 2am last Sunday morning and my neighbour, having an insomniac smoke outside, saw someone trying car doors at 4am in Teignmouth Road)

Beware of Fraudulent Driveway/Building Services

Brent and Harrow Trading Standards have recently come across firms quoting for driveway work claiming to have worked with the Council as a way of gaining trust. Note that claims of this nature are false and illegal and are an indication that the firm may not respect your consumer rights and is prepared to operate illegally. Please report any approaches of this nature to Citizens Advice Consumer Services on 0808 223 1133 and do not engage with traders who cold call or claim to have worked with the Council. Information on guidance for building work at your home can be found at Link

Beware of Covid pass fraud

Please be alert of any messages requesting money in exchange for a COVID pass. Criminals are using the NHS APP as a way to target the public to convince them to hand over money, financial details and personal information. They are sending imitation text messages, email and making phone calls, pretending to be from the NHS and offering fake vaccine certificates for sale.

Note: The NHS passport is free of charge; the NHS Covid app is free of charge; the NHS will never ask for financial details.

If you receive a call and suspect it to be fraudulent, hang up. If you receive an email, forward it to Report@phishing.gov.uk mailto:Report@phishing.gov.uk ; If you receive a text message, forward it to the number 7726, free of charge. Please report any fraudulent phone calls or messages to: www.covidhotline.org http://www.covidhotline.org  or phone 0800 587 5030.

St Gabriel’s Open Day: Sun 26 Sept 1-4pm

“This Sunday, instead of our regular services, St Gabriel's is open to all for a Harvest themed open day.  It's your chance to come in, take a look around and see what goes on within the life of the church. All are welcome whatever your beliefs or views, to come and see what we are all about.  Come and join us for tower tours, building tours, café, Fairtrade stall and lots of kids activities.  We will also be collecting tinned goods and non-perishables to add to our Harvest Festival appeal.  Entrance and café drinks are free but do bring some change for the Fairtrade stall and second hand books. We will have a gathered moment to give thanks for all the Harvest donations at 3.30pm.”
