B&Q devt; public inquiry. Last Tuesday the Secretary of State told Barnet Council that he's decided to call in the planning application for the B&Q site. This means that the application will be decided by the Secretary of State. There'll be a public inquiry and I understand that everyone who commented on the planning application will be contacted by the council and invited to send in comments to the inspector. After a few months – possibly early next year – there will be a public hearing which will take several days. Afterwards the inspector will send a report to the Secretary of State, with a recommendation. The Secretary of State will decide whether to let the devt go ahead and, if so, what conditions attached.

ATM fraud. A member of NW2 residents association used one of the cash machines outside Santander in Cricklelwood Broadway, before the branch opened. The machine kept her card, or so it seemed; then shortly afterwards, hundreds of pounds had been taken from her account. The man queuing behind and the chatty man at the other cashpoint were probably both in it together. Staff said it's happened numerous times and it's best to use the machine inside. (similar reports in the past at NatWest in Willesden Green)

Recent scams: (reported by Which magazine)
- Fake Santander email. The email impersonates Santander’s branding and gives you a sense of urgency regarding your access to banking services, to pressure you into giving away data. More
- British Gas email scam offering a fake energy refund. Although the email looks legitimate, it addresses you by your email address and not your name. More
- Premium rate number scams. This scam tries to trick people who are searching online for telephone numbers of government advice services. It works by displaying an advert for the phone number of the relevant government advice line. But you’ll be charged a premium for using this advertised telephone number – in some cases, as much as £20 or £30 a call. You are put through to the right advice line, but you pay a very high and unnecessary connection fee. More
