help to Ukraine - meeting tomorrow

Thanks to those who have supported so far. (MapRA will offer assistance where we can but because of our constitution cannot assist financially)

Doug and Tilly are setting up a womens' group to assume responsibility for Yuliya’s support, her refuge, and for Ukrainians coming in to Mapesbury. Given that Yuliya’s refuge is to look after displaced mothers and children; it seems this would be a brilliant way of getting our community to gel and get this completed.  As we receive refugees in, they want to coordinate everyone – kids, doctors, pets, schools, churches, transport etc.

Tilly is hosting the first meeting of the group tomorrow Friday, at 1pm at their flat, 23 St Gabriels Road, and Yuliya is joining them from Ukraine by zoom from Ukraine at 1.30pm. Please can people who want to support both Yuliya and refugees join the meeting tomorrow.  Contact for the Brodies is: home.brodies@gmail.com, but just turn up at no 23 at 1pm tomorrow.

Yuliya is also spreading details of what accommodation we have available in Mapesbury; she has set up a google form for people who can offer accommodation here so she can try to match up with people she knows need help: https://forms.gle/LHXKyD8KZ6AEvL5n8.

B&Q  devt on hold

Good news that Barnet Council have been told not to approve Montreaux's application yet; to give the Secretary of State time to decide whether or not to get involved. The letter from Michael Gove, The Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, went to Barnet Council last week and so, as things stand, the Secretary of State (Michael Gove) hasn't decided yet whether to call it in. More explanation on NW2’s website: It is also worth pointing out that the Conservative Party leaflet on this claiming that the scheme has been rejected and also that the London Mayor supported it is wrong.

Community Grants

Brent Council have launched two community grants programmes under You Decide:

  • NCIL (Neighbourhood Community Levy Fund) £2m
  • Health and Wellbeing grants £250k

They are holding events across the borough to give residents more information about these grants and help with completing application forms. They are keen to hear from groups and organisations who have not been funded before; but all organisations who meet the criteria are eligible to apply. Register for You Decide Information Session on Wednesday 20 April 5-7pm Applications opened on Tuesday 22 March and will close on Friday 22 April at 23:59. Application forms and Guidance Notes can be found online.
