5G mast. There is an application (22/4004 see below) to install a 20m mast next to the path beside the Queensbury (110 Walm Lane). Several people are very concerned about this.
You can comment to the planning application (below) and there is a petition against it which you may be minded to support: link It seems to me that the main planning issues are:
  • It is virtually on the boundary of the Mapesbury conservation area and such masts are not allowed in conservation areas. Even if judged to be just outside it will have a visual impact on the area. The impact on conservation areas and listed buildings is a key factor.
  • The fit in the local context is an important issue. This seems to be a cut and paste application in terms of describing the local impact so cannot be said to take into account “local requirements” . (It appears that because of government regulations health aspects cannot be considered by the planning authority as long as the applicant provided a certificate that the emissions are below a certain level.)
  • This could be a Trojan horse with many more towers to come and maybe just a way of private operators bypassing the BT cable network.
Some members have a lot more detailed concerns. If you wish to be briefed fully on those please see the petition website or contact Peter Chambers at  pr.chambers@outlook.com
Mosaic workshop for Kilburn station – MapRA sessions. Free workshops to make an exciting mosaic for the planters at Kilburn tube station. No experience required - new skills taught! The mosaics will promote green spaces in the local area and there will be 8 panels that decorate the platform planters. Workshops last 1.5 hours and take place 100m from Kilburn tube station (in the arches on Maygrove Road). The project is initiated by Transition Town Kensal to Kilburn (environmental action group) in partnership with Debra Collis, Mosaic Artist (Create Mosaic Workshops) supported by Brent Council, NCIL fund.

On Tue 17th January they are offering 3 sessions specifically for Mapesbury Residents' Association, a chance to meet local people and learn mosaics – from 11-12.30pm, 1.30-3.00pm and 3.30-5pm. You’re welcome to join one or two sessions. Minimum age 12 with parent/guardian or 18+ on own. They encourage Kilburn & Brent residents to participate, and will prioritise first timers to this project so you can book maximum 2 sessions. (Please don’t share or promote this beyond the local area.)

See Eventbrite for further details and to book, or if that doesn’t answer your query, please email kilburntubemosaic@gmail.com (There are other sessions if you can’t make this date, including on 21st February on the ground floor for participants who can’t access steps. Please contact them if you prefer this session for access reasons.)

Plant move. Thanks to several helpers we moved William’s plants from Watling Gardens to WG station and some to back garden for storage; will use some more for the station, some for the triangle gardens and the rest for Open Gardens day plant sale. (if you would like to be informed when we know details of William's funeral - let me know.)

Reminder - Recycle your Christmas tree! Today is last day to drop tree off at collection point at the Anson Road entrance to Gladstone Park. For other options see link

And
recycle Xmas cards to Leslie Daisley’s charity (The Paul Daisley trust to raise awareness of colon cancer). She and her sister Caroline make them into new cards to sell in aid of the trust. Drop them off to me at 64 Teignmouth Road (leave in plastic bag outside door); or to Lesley Daisley at 11 Montrose Avenue.
